WEAU.com: It’s is the first ever coding expo at UW-Platteville designed specifically for girls.

It is called Girls Who Code, featuring 16 participants with a group of UW-Platteville women ambassadors as mentors.

They focus on computer science and software engineering programs when they meet. Organizers say it’s a way to get more girls involved in the field.

“The reality is that we’re going need everybody, including young girls, to grow up to be engineers, scientists and mathematicians to maintain our standard of living and the prosperity of the state of Wisconsin and the nation and the world,” said Molly Gribb Director of the College of Engineering, Mathematics and Science, UW-Platteville.

The project is a collaboration between the Platteville School District, UW-Platteville and the Platteville Public Library.
