Area students participate in Medical Discovery Days

Spooner Advocate: Students from Frederic, Hayward, Luck, Northwood and Spooner schools participated in Medical Discovery Days, a two-day healthcare exploration opportunity. During Medical Discovery Days, students learn about the availability of healthcare careers, skills required and associated benefits. Participants tour area colleges and get hands-on experience as they go behind the scenes of a hospital, clinic, and/or nursing home facility.

On day one of the event, students were exposed to a wide variety of health care professions. Students from Hayward, Northwood and Spooner toured Wisconsin Indianhead Technical College (WITC) in Rice Lake. They learned about WITC’s healthcare related programs including Nursing, Medical Assistant and Gerontology-Aging Services Professional. Students from Luck and Frederic toured Pine Technical and Community College (PTCC) in Pine City, Minnesota. They learned about PTCC’s Nursing and Medical Assistant programs and how to prepare for healthcare careers in the region.
